What is foundation?
Obviously the most noticeable part of your make up, as it’s the biggest surface area to cover with cosmetics, is the face. But despite being the biggest area to cover, it is almost the easiest part to consider, once you have your products carefully chosen.
Most products for the face are geared towards giving your skin an even tone and perfecting any blemishes you may have. Using the guide above for the correct make up for your complexion means that you can pick out a make up that matches your skin tone, so you don’t end up with tell tale mark in your hairline and down your jaw bone where your make up hasn’t blended in with your natural skin colour.
Foundation is the main base for your make up that is used once you have prepped your skin with concealer and before you add face powder. The beauty of foundation is that it gives your skin an even tone, therefore making all the other cosmetics you apply work to their best and enhance your best features, as they should. You don’t have to wear foundation, it’s just that it creates a consistent colour that effectively means your skin is a blank canvas in which you can apply the rest of your make up to.
Different types of foundation:
There are many different types of foundation, listed below:
Primer: A primer for the face is a colourless foundation that is used to prep the skin for the rest of the facial products that you are going to wear. The primer can be used either on its own as it gives the skin enough coverage to look even, or used under other foundations to reduce large pores and blemishes.
Liquid foundation: there is a huge range of liquid foundation as it tends to be one of the most popular foundations on the market currently. This is mainly because it does a great job of covering blemishes, pores and fine lines plus it can balance out uneven marks on your skin.
Mousse foundation: this foundation is easier to apply in small doses so at you have more control on how much you put onto your face and it means that you can build it up gradually. It tends to be good for all skin types but is good especially for those with lines or dry skin as because of its ability to be applied gradually therefore not needing to cake it on.
Cream to Powder foundation- the great thing about this foundation is the ease with which you can apply it, but how good it looks when finished. You apply it as a liquid, but then it dries to a powder finish that then helps to combat oiliness throughout the day.
Compact foundation: this foundation is good for a light coverage of your skin and it is also simple to apply. They can come in two forms; either a liquid or cream powder They usually come with an applicator pad already but if not a foundation sponge can be used.
Illuminating foundation: This foundation is great for giving your skin a glow to it after you have applied foundation. Instead of the matte look you can get from just foundation, this gives your skin a fresh look about it and highlights certain aspects of your face such as your cheek bones and the nose. Can also be used without foundation, although beware that it doesn’t then highlight part of your skin whilst other part are left looking a little lacklustre.
Tinted moisturisers: Foundation with a tint to it is good for skin that doesn’t necessarily need a lot of coverage due to the skin colour already being quite even. It is a good moisturiser for the skin and usually comes with a SPF already built in so perfect for wearing on your holidays.
